Have you taken your man to the doctor, lately?Category: Community, Practice Experience, Public Health
Rain or Shine (and boy did it pour…), our students participated in the eleventh annual “Take Your Man to the Doctor” campaign – where Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz made a call to action “for men of all ages, ethnicities and economic levels to regularly visit a doctor – and for the woman and men who love them to help make it happen.”
Dr. Evangelina Berrios-Colon, Assistant Professor at Touro College of Pharmacy, worked with her experiential practice site, Brooklyn Hospital, where historically she has worked closely with the community outreach department on health promotion activities. Joining her were 3 P4 students who were completing their Ambulatory Care Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience rotation. The students conducted blood pressure screenings and body mass index measurements. If an elevated BP was identified the patient was flagged for counseling and/or medication management. The students were incredibly committed during the event despite the heavy downpour. We worked in the rain and still did over 100 screenings!
