This year’s annual meeting of the AACP (American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy) in Chicago had a full roster of activities, but some highlights stood out for Touro College of Pharmacy.

  • Many of the faculty who attended participated in poster presentations. William Lundmark, our Electronic Resources Librarian and Asst. Professor, gave a presentation on “iPads in the Library and Classroom: the Technical Setup Step-by-Step.” He presented the knowledge gathered & process he put together to maintain the lending library of iPads Touro Harlem Medical Library recently set up (as the recipients of a grant) to use to promote health literacy to the local community residents and to lend to faculty and students. Other notable faculty presentations included Dr. Nataliya Shinkazh and Dr. Evangelina Berrios-Colon, “Case-Based Learning in an Advanced Ambulatory Care Didactic Elective”; Dr. John Fisher, “The Flipped Classroom: Increased Acceptance of Active Learning in the Science Classroom”; Dr. Keith Veltri, “Grand Rounds as a Longitudinal Course for Synthesis and Integration of Didactic and Experiential Education.”
  • By popular student vote, Dr. Keith Veltri won the 2013 Teacher of the Year Award for the third time in four years.
  • “Pharmathon 5k”! Tom Cook participated in 5K run, which started at 6:15am. The Scenic views of Lake Michigan and the City Skyline made up for the early start time. Let’s go #172!
  • And of course, it’s a unique opportunity for the two Touro pharmacy schools, in California and New York, to get together and compare notes as colleagues and renew friendships.
